Twisp Ponds

The Methow Salmon Recovery Foundation's Twisp Ponds site serves as a habitat for native fish and an acclimation site for hatchery fish. Hatchery fish, which begin their lives in concrete raceways, grow and learn to fend for themselves in the Ponds before their release into the Twisp River. Riparian vegetation and artificial shade give them refuge from sun and predators.

The Ponds site is also a showcase of MSRF's commitment to working with the community. Through the Watershed Watchers program, many groups of local students have come to the Ponds to learn about salmon recovery and plant trees. Former students have returned to find their trees thriving and providing shade for fish. Walking trails, signage, and installations by local artists encourage the public to walk through the site and gain an understanding of what it's about.
