Living With the Methow River

Monthly Activities and Learning Opportunities

October 2014

Building a Conservation Ethic: Landowners are critical to the ongoing efforts to protect and restore the health of the Methow watershed. The Methow Restoration Council is working with local landowners to develop restoration and stewardship plans to improveriparian habitat, reduce invasive weeds, and improve stream health.

The Methow river is currently open for hatchery steelhead fishing from its mouth to its confluence with the Chewuch. Anglers must keep hatchery steelhead (limit two) but release all wild steelhead without removing them from the water. Any steelhead with a floy tag and/or 1/4" holes punched in its tail fin must also be released. Selective gear rules are in effect (no bait).

For more information about steelhead fishing in the Upper Columbia watershed, see the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's official rules.
